Fanafikile Lephakha, a personal development life coach, hosted South Africa's first naked hike on World Naked Hike Day, June 21, 2021. The men went on a naked hike and seminar in QwaQwa, Free State, on the Drakensberg mountain.
Despite the fact that the day is unofficial, it is extensively observed every year on June 21.
NAKED MEN HIKE THE DRAKENSBERG MOUNTAIN
The purpose, according to the organizer, Fanafikile Lephaka, was to help males overcome insecurities that they are unable to express due to societal standards and expectations.
“The purpose of this trip and seminar was to push people to overcome their fears of being judged for who they are. Some men have body issues that they don't discuss because they are afraid that others will notice anything that is "not normal" about them. As a result, being nude forces us to overcome our insecurity and accept ourselves.
“Finally, being supported and welcomed as you are, with all of the men cheering one other on, it is a brotherhood feeling that most men have never felt before, and it generated a feeling of unity unlike any other.”
The two-hour naked hike and seminar took place in temperatures that ranged from five degrees in the morning to 12 degrees once the hike was over.
“I'm excited to take part in this hike. It has helped me overcome my insecurities. We have ambitions that we must realize. So, if we were able to accomplish this, it suggests we are capable of facing the world. If you're afraid of being naked in front of other men, you're not a man. I can guarantee you that we have undergone a transformation. We have a positive outlook on life. Every man in South Africa is invited to join us. We're giving each other strength.”
